Come meet Elizabeth J. Duncan
|
Elizabeth J. Duncan spins a charming tale of murder
and intrigue in this winning first novel.
The picturesque North Wales market town of Llanelen is shocked when Meg Wynne Thompson, a self-made beauty who has turned out to be something of an unpopular bride, goes missing on her wedding day and turns up dead. The last person believed to have seen her is manicurist Penny Brannigan, an expatriate Canadian who has lived in North Wales for almost twenty-five years. When Penny notices that something is not quite right at the funeral of her dearest friend, she becomes emotionally invested in the case, and sets out to investigate. It seems that several people, including the brides drunken, abusive father, had reasons to wish Meg dead, but when the trail leads to her grooms home, an explosive secret will shake the small town. |
With its bucolic Welsh setting and vivid, colorful characters, this mystery is sure to delight the most discerning of traditional-mystery fans.
AWARDS The Cold Light of Mourning has won both the William F. Deeck-Malice Domestic Grant for unpublished writers and the St. Martins Press/Malice Domestic award for best first novel. Elizabeth is the first person to win both awards and the first Canadian to win either award.

Come meet the newest addition to the Sleuth family. After 32 years of cats--Porky, Winston, Popi, Princess, Peaches, Petosky, Perry, and Paddington--the cat era has come to an end. In comes Percy, sorry, Sir Percival, and the era of the dog has begun. Marian wanted a dog for the cottage, and JD has always been allergic to cats (and dogs) so the compromise was a hypo-allergenic Standard Poodle (from Pendragon Poodles). Paddington was the last of the cats to join the family and the last to leave, but, alas, leave he has, to join his siblings in the great mouse hunting grounds of the sky. That's Paddinton in the pictures below. Oh, yeah, that's him and his dad hard at work, keeping the couch from flying off. |

Come meet Percy He does tend to keep eccentric hours, so call ahead if you need to see him. Otherwise, it's by luck or by chance. He's often away the first half of the week, so from Thursdays on the chances are better. Safer to call his secretary (J.D.) and book an appointment (416-483-3111). |
